Last week, Jorma Hogbacka of St. Catherines, made good on his word to two of the waitresses at his local coffee shop. He gave them certified cheques for $30,000 each, just for getting his order right.

A small double-double without the trouble!” was the catchphrase the 60-year old retired semi-retired welder used to say whenever he ordered his coffee at the St. Catharines Tim Horton’s. After picking up his cheque at the Ontario Lottery Corp’s office last Monday, Hogbacka said that he was planning on sharing his winnings with six ladies who used to serve him coffee on a daily basis and always get his order right. “I promised them, but do you think they believed me?

Well, I can say definitively that two of those original six ladies are definite believers. Yesterday, Hogbacka gave Melissa Grivich, 24, of Welland and Sithorn Chuon, 24, of St. Catharines their tip, a cheque in the amount of $30,000, scribbled with the words “Have a nice day” on them.

Grivich is quoted as saying:

I’m like in absolute shock. I served coffee, and I guess it just goes to show that customer service is everything, and yeah … it’s crazy. I can’t believe it.

Chuon has not worked at the Tim Horton’s for years but she did remember Hogbacka. There are four other lucky women out there who Hogbacka only knew by their first names: Tanya, Jessica, Meredith and Glenda and the staff at the Tim Horton’s shop are trying to connect with them.
