I think so, at least up here (and now that it is *Orange and Black Day* argh…)

We should stage a protest next year, send the kids to school in Samhain costumes with homemade UNICEF boxes

Have they got rid of the box? I thought I’d seen it recently, maybe last year, still…and the post seems to suggest it’s still going.

I do have memories of it, too, of assembling the box, and putting strings through the holes, and the sound and feel of the pennies in it, the sensation of generous people slipping in their pennies through the slot! In the clip I posted on my blog today, it was in 1956, I think, the kids raised $200,000 for Unicef!

You brought back a real memory for me. The “jingle jingle jingle” of the orange box around my neck every year.

I was sad when they got rid of the box.

But at least the campaign carries on, which is what matters.
